It’s always good when a ‘different’ bike gets wheeled into the office, and this Masuelli bamboo bike certainly fits that bill.

Made from a mix of bamboo (the tubes) and carbon fibre (the lugs), the Pinon Fijo has a singlespeed/fixed gear rear hub and costs £1,500.

UK distributors Raw Bamboo Bikes say bamboo is stronger than steel, in terms of tensile strength, when used as frame material and does a better job of handling impacts than carbon fibre.

As well as highlighting the sustainable nature of the material, Raw say the bamboo absorbs more vibration than any metal can, offering a smoother ride.

The model pictured comes with a

chainset, front Clark’s cantilever brake and carbon fork. Cycling Plus magazine will have a full review soon. For more information, head to www.rawbamboobikes.co.uk .
