We showed you the highlights of UK-based Genesis's 2010 range earlier this year, but one model that slipped through the net was the new Abyss.
This is basically a more hardcore version of the company's entry-level Core hardtail, with a tougher, slacker (69° head angle rather than 71°) and lower slung frame, and a 140mm-travel RockShox Revelation SL fork up front.
Genesis describe it as "a bike to take trail centre rollercoasters, rides in wild places and play-spot sessions to new levels of fun".
There's only one model available, at £1,2499, and it eschews the current trend for swoopy hydroforming, instead sticking with shaped and extruded conventional tubes.
There's a ring-reinforced head tube up front to take the extra strain associated with the long-travel fork, plus plenty of beefy gussets and thicker walled tubing than on the Core.
The Abyss comes with a Race Face Ride AM double-ring chainset, but ISCG mounts mean you can switch to a single ring plus chain device setup if you're more of a downhiller than a climber.
Other spec highlights include Shimano SLX derailleurs and brakes, Maxxis High Roller 2.35 tyres and a smattering of own-brand kit.
