If you’re looking to get into indoor cycling this winter, or are thinking about upgrading your setup, stop what you’re doing and check out this incredible deal.
At the time of writing, Freewheel is selling the highly rated Elite Suito smart trainer with a whopping 45 per cent discount, taking the price from £499.99 down to just £274.99.
Having tested countless models over the past few years, this is the best smart trainer deal I’ve ever seen.
A Suito deal
The Elite Suito is a mid-range, direct-drive model from the well-known Italian brand.
Although it was released around five years ago, its headline specs are still competitive with the best smart trainers available.
It has a maximum power output of 1,900 watts – likely more than enough for anyone except elite track sprinters – and can simulate gradients up to 15 per cent.
Its 3.5kg flywheel isn’t the heaviest (Wahoo’s Kickr Core Zwift One features a 5.4kg flywheel, for example), but flywheel weight isn’t the only determinant of ride feel. In my experience, the Suito does a great job of providing a fluid and realistic feel through the pedals.
Likewise, Elite’s direct-drive smart trainers do a great job of providing accurate power data too, so the +/- 2.5 per cent claimed accuracy should be adequate for all but the most meticulous watt-counters out there.
The Suito also has a great build quality, with plenty of metal, and folds up neatly if you want to store it away between sessions.
As with many trainers, you’ll need to supply your own cassette for the Shimano HG freehub, although you could just use the one from your bike to save some cash.
Compatible with all the major apps
With Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity, the Suito is compatible with all of the best indoor cycling apps, such as Zwift, Rouvy and TrainerRoad.
That said, if you’re looking for something free-to-use, you could also try one of the best free indoor cycling apps, such as MyWoosh, or give Elite's My E-training App a go – the Suito includes a code for a free 12-month subscription to that platform in the box.
Why is this such a good deal?
While prices across the bike industry have risen sharply in recent years, smart trainer prices have generally fallen due to a massive surge in competition within the space.
Despite this, smart trainers are generally still fairly expensive – especially if you want a fully featured, direct-drive model from a well-known brand.
Given this, a price of only £274.99 for a smart trainer that features no obvious spec compromises and is manufactured by one of the biggest names in the industry feels like an absolute steal.
In terms of the competition, only Van Rysel’s D100 comes close to this deal on price (it costs £259.99 with a Zwift Cog – look out for a review coming soon, by the way), but the Suito blows that trainer out of the water when it comes to specs.
Of course, we don’t know how many units Freewheel has available, and it looks as if this might be a UK-only deal for the time being, but we’ll be doing a wider round-up of Black Friday indoor cycling deals tomorrow, so look out for that coming soon.
