Dean Downing of Rapha Condor Sharp will be joining the riders of the four-day The Alpine Challenge sportive, which starts on the shores of Lake Annecy this Thursday.
He joins former Triple Crown winner Stephen Roche and four-time Cape Epic winner Karl Platt on the 320km event, which includes climbs of the Col de la Croix Fry and Col des Aravis. The event is based in Annecy, with each of the four stages exploring the delights of the Alps before returning in the afternoon.
As with all HotChillee’s events, which include London-Paris and the Cape Rouleur, riders can expect rolling closures, flagged ‘King of the Mountain’ climb sections, and support from masseurs and mechanics.
“I've been wanting to ride in one of the HotChillee events for a while now and when I was invited as a guest rider on The Alpine Challenge I jumped at the opportunity,” said Downing.
“It’s going to be great riding into the mountains next to passionate cyclists and I’m told Lake Annecy is a stunning place to stay. One of the cool aspects of HotChillee’s Alpine Challenge is the race section. Everyone can go for it over the 15 km flagged section, and then regroup for a sociable tempo ride. Hopefully I can put some fast wheels in, pack my climbing legs and have a go at getting the fastest time each day. “
