CrankBrothers have teamed up with US cycle shop chain Performance Bicycle to create 10 one-of-a-kind 'dreambikes' that will be sold at auction to raise funds for Wheels4Life.
High-end mountain bike frames from Ibis, Titus, Focus and Tomac have been decked out with CrankBrothers' latest components, plus kit from SRAM, RockShox, Avid, Truvativ, Fizik and Continental Tires. Each machine is worth at least US$5,000.
Performance will auction off two custom dreambikes a week for five weeks on their website, starting today:
- 15-21 November: Ibis Mojo SL and Titus X Carbon
- 22-28 November: Tomac Carbide XC and Titus FTM Carbon
- 29 November - 5 December: Ibis Mojo SL and Focus Project 2.0
- 6-12 December: Focus First XC and Titus El Guapo
- 13-19 December: Focus Raven and Titus Rockstar
All proceeds from the sale will go to Wheels4Life, the non-profit organization set up by trials legend Hans Rey to provide bicycles to people in developing countries. The aim is to raise $50,000 to buy 500 life-changing new bikes.
“A bicycle in the hands of the right person can work miracles,” said Rey. “If you consider that one-sixth of the world’s population lives in poverty, a bike can make all the difference in whether a person gets access to education and healthcare.”
“Wheels4Life is one of the most compelling and creative humanitarian causes we’ve seen, and we're proud to support it,” said Jim Thompson, CEO of Performance, Inc. “By the simple act of giving bikes to people in underdeveloped nations, we can give them access to opportunities they otherwise wouldn’t have. It makes you realize how much we take for granted in our own lives.”
