CrankBrothers’ Dreambikes programme, which raised $42,645 for cycling charity Wheels4Life in 2010, has returned bigger and better for 2012. Some of mountain biking's biggest brands have signed up to produce 14 one-of-a-kind bikes which will be sold at auction.
Bike manufacturers taking part include GT, Ibis and Scott, and components are being supplied by the likes of SRAM, RockShox, Avid, Fi’zi:k and Continental. The bikes are being auctioned on eBay over the next few months, with a new one going under the hammer every Monday until the Sea Otter Classic in March, where the final bike will be raffled.
More than $16,000 has been raised already this year through the sale of the first four 'dream bikes', which included a Focus Project 1.0 and an Ibis Mojo HD. Currently at auction, for the next few hours at least, is a Scott Genius LT, and next up, starting on Monday, is a Tomac Supermatic 120. The auction schedule can be found here.
All proceeds will go to Wheels4Life, the charity created by trials legend Hans Rey, which donates bicycles to people in Third World countries.
