American component manufacturers ControlTech have released a new double ring mountain bike crankset called Double Play.
It is aimed at cross-country riders who want to convert from a triple to a double ring setup in order to save weight and improve shifting.
The company argue that double ring setups offer almost as many useable gears as 27-speed drivetrains.
The crankset comes with a 29-tooth small chainring and a choice of big ring sizes – 40, 42 or 44t.
It can be used with the latest 10-speed cassettes, if you switch to a 10-speed road chain.
Mountain Biking UK magazine will be testing the Double Play soon, so look out for a review on BikeRadar.
