Sky rider Chris Froome has urged volunteer 'Tour Makers' to come forward to help make the 2014 Tour de France visit to Yorkshire an event to remember.

Organisers of the grand départ, Welcome to Yorkshire and the supermarket chain Asda are recruiting 10,000 volunteers who will line the route, act as guides and help the emergency services and national parks authorities manage the hundreds of thousands of people expected to visit the race between 5 and 7 July, 2014.

The defending Tour de France champion Froome said: "I’d say to everyone ‘come and become part of it’. The Tour is like a big carnival and this is your chance. It’s really exciting that the race is coming to the UK and to be a part of it will be amazing – it’s your Tour!”

The deadline for Tour Maker registration is 31 December, via the Le Tour Yorkshire website. Once selected, Tour makers will be given training, uniform and, in many cases, a great view of the action.
