The Casco Attack should have been on display at the Cycle Show at the NEC last weekend. It wasn't, because the only sample in the UK was in BikeRadar's first look pile.

The Attack (£229.99) offers some seriously arresting – read aggressive – styling for the considerable outlay: aluminium bars and pop rivets stud the exterior, while the dual density shell extends over the forehead like the fingers from a big scary robot. It just looks mean. Yet inside, the lid is plush with hand-stitched leather and braided rope chin straps.

First impressions are that the helmet is seriously sturdy – a feeling that was backed up when we put it on the scales where it tipped them at heavy 343g.

On-the-fly adjustability seems good, though Casco's plastic Disc-Fit ratchet looks and feels downmarket compared with the rest of the unit. A degree of fore and aft chinstrap adjustment is also achievable with clamping screws positioned on the braided rope straps.

Sizing is going to be an issue for many: the Casco Attack comes in one size, and will only fit noggins with a circumference between 54cm and 59cm.

Given its heft and styling, the helmet looks better suited for speedy urban cyclists – courier types – after an aesthetic edge rather than weight-conscious roadies.
