BBC radio is ramping up the excitement for Sport Relief. Bradley Wiggins will guest star on The Archers, and now Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw is poised to embark on a mammoth 12-hour turbo session.

Tour de France star Wiggins will judge a Sport Relief contest in the fictional Radio 4 soap – a role there “was no way I could turn down”, he said.

"I grew up with it on the radio in the house,” added the Londoner, “and it's not every day you get to star in the world's longest-running soap opera. Meeting the cast, the writer and the director was an honour and I really hope the storyline will raise awareness about Sport Relief's amazing work, and that it shows people that everyone can get involved in Sport Relief this year."

Meanwhile, breakfast radio DJ Grimshaw – Grimmers, as he’s known – will ride the turbo trainer in a glass box outside BBC’s London Studios on Monday, 17 March. The challenge starts at 7am.

Grimshaw’s challenge is part of a collective BBC radio challenge to cover 25,000 miles in cycling, swimming and running challenges. Sport Relief runs between 21 and 23 March.
