British Cycling has appointed Bob Howden president. He replaces Brian Cookson, who vacated the role to take up the top job at the UCI.
Howden, a BC board member for 13 years, had been acting chair since Cookson's election as UCI president in September.
He takes up the role at a time when British Cycling is enjoying unprecedented levels of membership thanks to international success from UK riders such as Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome.
Howden said: "I am delighted to have been elected as British Cycling’s President with a mandate to push on with ensuring that British Cycling is achieving its objectives.
"We will remain true to what has become our tradition: to succeed on the world stage and to inspire people to enjoy riding their bikes more often, be it for sport, recreation or transport."
According to British Cycling, Howden raced for 24 years and was a former junior division road champion.
He also has significant experience as a race organiser and commissaire. He organised the national men’s and women’s Elite Road Race Championships in 2005, 2008 and 2012 and has sat on numerous commissions, including anti-doping.
He was elected to the post at the national Council Meeting in Crewe, near Stoke-on-Trent.
