The new Scott Ransom features the brand's hidden shock technology and incorporates an all-new 6-bar suspension linkage.

The enduro bike continues to run 170mm of suspension travel front and rear, but the new linkage is said to better help riders tune the suspension characteristics.

You can run the Ransom with 29in wheels or as a mullet setup with a 27.5in rear wheel.

Five models will be available at launch, including a women's specific Contessa bike. The range starts at £4,499 / €5,199 for the Ransom 930 and tops out with the Ransom 900 RC, priced at £8,599 / $9,999 / €9,999.

We've had the chance to ride the new bike, so check out our Scott Ransom 930 RC first ride review.

Secret suspension

All models of the Scott Ransom use a carbon fibre front triangle and aluminium swingarm, except the 900 RC and Contessa 910, which use a full carbon fibre frame.

The front triangles are made using Scott’s HMF modulus carbon composite, with the top-of-the-range 900 RC’s made from the brand's HMX modulus composite.

Scott says this enables the 900 RC’s front triangle to be lighter because the frame tubes can be made thinner without losing strength.

The most noticeable difference between the new Ransom and its predecessor is the hidden rear shock that sits in the down tube.

This design is said to increase frame stiffness by centring the forces around the bottom bracket area.

The slung position of the shock should also lower the centre of gravity, making it easier to manipulate the bike's direction of travel around corners.

Scott says the hidden shock technology decreases shock maintenance by protecting it from mud and water that might ingress into the seals.

Once again, the Swiss brand has partnered with Fox, co-developing a Float X Nude EVOL rear shock that has three ride settings: Climb; Ramp Control; and Descend, which can be selected using Scott’s TracLoc remote control on the handlebar.

All-new 6-bar linkage

The rear shock connects to a new 6-bar linkage, which delivers 170mm of rear travel and uses a concentric bottom bracket main pivot for increased stiffness.

Scott says the 6-bar linkage enables you to tune suspension kinematics, such as leverage rate, anti-squat and anti-rise, independently of one another to provide better suspension characteristics.

The rear shock is accessed by removing the down tube protector, which exposes a window into the mainframe.

Internal frame storage can be accessed through the window. Scott has given the Ransom a Syncros Matchbox Kit, which can be pulled down from within the down tube.

The kit contains a spare tube, tyre levers, chain tool and multi-tool for trailside repairs, and is very similar to the Save-The-Day kit found inside Bold Cycles' mountain bikes.

A flip chip on the chainstay enables you to choose between a 29in or 27.5in rear wheel, and there is an integrated chain guide in the bottom bracket area.

Scott’s new Ransom is available in four sizes: S, M, L and XL. All bikes have a 63.8-degree head angle in the slackest position.

This can be changed by swapping out the headset cups, with 64.4- and 65-degree head angle options available.

Seat tube angles range from 77 degrees to 77.6 degrees through the sizes, with chainstay measurements remaining the same at 440mm.

Reach measurements are up-to-date, with a medium-sized bike said to be 458mm long.
