Orbea has launched the Avant, an aluminium endurance road bike with clearance for 35mm tyres, mounts for full length mudguards and integrated cable management.
Prices start from £999 / €1,099 / $1,299, for a Shimano Claris-equipped model with mechanical disc brakes and rise to £1,499 / €1,699 / $1,899 for the top of the range model with Shimano 105 R7000 and hydraulic disc brakes.
There are also two rim brake models, although tyre clearance on these models is likely limited to 28mm.
Orbea Avant details
Like the recently announced 2021 Trek Domane AL, the Avant continues a theme for more affordable road bikes that offer heaps of practicality, rather than simply trying to be low cost imitators of high-end carbon race bikes.
That means wide ranging gears (50x34t chainsets paired with 11-34t or 11-32t cassettes across the range) and 28mm tyres specced as standard on disc brake models.
There’s also ample extra tyre clearance – up to 35mm as previously mentioned – and mounts for full length mudguards/fenders.
Built from an alloy frame with triple butted, hydroformed tubes and smoothed welds, as well as a carbon fork with an alloy steerer, Orbea says the Avant has been as carefully designed as its carbon frames, with particular attention paid to the paint and finish.
On the pricier disc versions, Orbea also includes an option to spec its OC1 riser road handlebar (as also seen on the recently announced Orbea Orca OMR), which offers 15mm of additional handlebar stack and shortens the reach by 10mm, at no additional cost.
Disc brake Avant models also have Orbea’s OC integrated stem and cable cover system, which neatly channels the gear and brake cables into the frame at the top of the head tube. This makes for a very clean looking front end, without the hassle or expense of a fully integrated handlebar and stem arrangement.
As with its other models, Orbea also offers some build customisation options through its MyO programme, though changes may come at an additional cost.
