Unlike its brand-new 1501 Spline One series wheelsets, which have migrated from alloy to carbon fibre, DT Swiss's 1700 Spline maintains its alloy-rimmed lineage but gets updated 350 hubs with the 36 SL Ratchet System.
- Best mountain bike wheels | Trail, all-mountain and enduro wheels tested
- The best mountain bikes under £2,000
Like the current host of 1700 Spline series wheels, the newest versions all use alloy-welded rims to produce the desired balance between weight, quality and strength.
Thanks to DT's PHR nipple and spoke interface washer that distributes forces in the wheel through a larger area, it's managed to reduce rim wall thickness.
Also specced are DT Swiss Competition spokes with double butting. They've been cold-forged to help harden the metal but retain good ductility (the ability to withstand deformation without breaking), resulting in a lightweight but strong spoke.
Each rim is built onto the 350 hub, that, according to DT, shares the same DNA as the highly-regarded 240 hub.
The 350 hub uses DT's new 36 SL Ratchet System with a 10-degree engagement angle and boasts tool-free freehub body replacement.
DT Swiss's new Product Support Tool will also include the new 1700 Spline series wheels.
