When Canyon launched the Inflite in 2018, it told us it had big plans for its new cyclocross bike. It wasn’t wrong, with the current men’s and women’s world champions, Mathieu van der Poel and Ceylin del Carmen Alverado, both winning their titles on the Inflite (Van der Poel for the second time in a row).
Now Canyon has announced spec changes for its 2021 Inflite range, with six new builds based around the Inflite's two carbon and alloy frames, along with updated colour schemes. That includes a top-spec team replica version.
Top of the tree is the Inflite CF SLX 9 Team. Painted in the blue and white replica colours of Van der Poel's Team Alpecin-Fenix, it comes with a Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset with a clutched rear derailleur and double chainset. The Reynolds Assault LE DB tubeless carbon wheelset is paired with Schwalbe X-One tyres.
Smaller sizes get 650b rather than 700c wheels, for more consistent geometry and handling across the eight frame sizes offered, according to Canyon. As with all the higher spec carbon models, there’s Canyon’s own cyclocross-specific H31 Ergocockpit CF one-piece carbon bar/stem.
Plus all the bikes get what Canyon calls “that kink” in the top tube, designed to provide a large triangle for easy shouldering, while still leaving plenty of the seatpost exposed for extra bump smoothing. Claimed weight is 7.8kg for the flagship bike and it's yours for £4,199.
Next down, the Inflite CF SLX 9 goes single ring, being kitted out with a SRAM Force eTap AXS 12-speed wireless electronic groupset and carbon tubeless wheels from Reynolds, in this case the AR41 DB model.
It comes in a fetching pink and black colour scheme and the price drops to £3,899.
Further down the range, there are 11-speed SRAM Force 1, Rival and Apex options, as well as a mechanical Shimano Ultegra RX bike.
The cheapest bike is the £1,499 Inflite 5, which features an aluminium frame. Even that bike has the kink and comes with the 360g Canyon FK0045 Disc all-carbon fork used on the top-spec Team model.
Availability varies by spec level and frame size, with some mid-sized carbon models available immediately, more in July and all by the end of August. Just in time for this year’s cyclocross season to kick off (coronavirus restrictions not withstanding).
