Scott 2020 road bikes: which model should you choose?

These are the most interesting bikes from Scott's extensive 2020 road bike range. covering all models including the 2020 Addict RC, Foil, Addict, Addict Gravel and Speedster.

Though Scott can’t claim to be one of the oldest bicycle manufacturers in the world, it can fairly claim to be one of the most innovative. In 1989, Scott changed time-trialling, with the introduction of clip-on aerodynamic handlebars. In a move that would come to define both of their careers, Greg Lemond used them to snatch Tour victory from Laurent Fignon by just eight seconds, on the final day of what’s been called ‘the greatest Tour of all’.

Since then Scott has continued to make headlines with one of the first production bikes to break the UCI weight limit of 6.8kg in 2007, and its aero bike won arguably the toughest one-day race on the professional calendar in 2016.

Having recently announced its 2020 road range, we thought we’d take a look at some of the key bikes in the range. As expected it’s stuffed full of lovely bikes for a wide variety of applications and budgets. Scott says its objective is "to offer the best bikes and designs at every price point", with "unique looks, styles and outstanding colours" across the range.

For 2020, Scott has seven key models in its range:

The Addict RC is the brand's newest road model and is its all-out disc-only race machine.

The Foil is Scott's aero bike platform and, like the Addict, is now only available with discs.

The Addict without the RC suffix is now the brand's endurance/comfort road bike model. A gravel and cyclocross version of the Addict is also available.

The Speedster — Scott's budget road bike range — rounds out the range, with a gravel model also available.

Many of Scott's bikes are also available under its women's-specific Contessa range.

While it remains to be seen if Scott’s 2020 bikes are indeed the best bikes at every price point, it’s certainly refreshing to see consideration for style across the board, even at the more budget-friendly end.

2020 Scott Addict RC range overview

The Addict is Scott’s all-round race bike. An overhaul of the tube shapes and the addition of hydraulic disc brakes see the Addict evolve from a lightweight climbing machine to a more versatile, general-purpose race bike.

Scott says the 2020 Addict is lightweight, fast and more integrated than ever before.

2020 Scott Addict RC Ultimate

Scott Addict RC Ultimate
The Scott Addict RC Ultimate is, as the name suggests, Scott's ultimate road racing bike. - Scott

The Scott Addict RC Ultimate is, as the name suggests, the highest-spec build in the Addict RC range.

Featuring SRAM Red eTap AXS, Zipp 202 NSW carbon wheels, hydraulic disc brakes and fully integrated handlebars that hide all of the cables, it’s a truly high-end build with a price tag to match.

  • Drivetrain: SRAM RED eTap AXS Disc 2x12
  • Wheels: ZIPP 202 NSW disc wheels

2020 Scott Addict RC 15

Scott Addict RC 15
The Scott Addict RC 15 features much of the same tech as the Ultimate build, but at over half the price. - Scott

The Scott Addict RC 15 features much of the same technology as the Ultimate build, at less than half the price.

Cutting the price in half doesn’t necessarily result in half the performance though — the frame and fork are made from a slightly lower grade of carbon, and it loses the one-piece integrated handlebars. Cables are still fully hidden though, and you get tubeless-ready carbon wheels, Schwalbe One tyres and Shimano’s excellent Ultegra R8070 Di2 for your money.

  • Frame: Addict RC Disc HMX carbon frame
  • Fork: Addict RC HMX fork
  • Drivetrain: Shimano Ultegra R8070 Di2 disc 2x11
  • Wheels: Syncros Capital 1.0 35 disc
  • Tyres: Schwalbe One Race-Guard 28mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-R8070 hydraulic disc
  • Handlebar: Syncros Creston iC 1.5 Compact Alloy
  • Seatpost: Syncros Duncan SL Aero
  • Saddle: Syncros Belcarra Regular 2.0
  • Price: £4,999 / €5,499

2020 Scott Addict RC 30

Scott Addict RC 30

Featuring the same frame and fork as the Addict RC 15, the Addict RC 30 forgoes Di2 and carbon wheels in the name of cost savings.

Everything in the build is quality stuff though, and the glossy blue paint job looks fantastic with the Schwalbe One tan wall tyres.

  • Frame: Addict RC Disc HMX carbon frame
  • Fork: Addict RC HMX fork
  • Drivetrain: Shimano Ultegra R8020 Disc 2x11
  • Wheels: Syncros RP2.0 alloy wheels
  • Tyres: Schwalbe One Race-Guard 28mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-R8070 hydraulic disc
  • Handlebar: Syncros Creston 2.0 Compact Alloy
  • Seatpost: Syncros Duncan SL Aero
  • Saddle: Syncros Belcarra Regular 2.0
  • Price: £3,199 / €3,499

2020 Scott Foil range overview

Scott says the Foil "is the most versatile aero bike on the market," and with victories in all three Grand Tours, alongside wins at Milan-San Remo, Liege Bastogne Liege and even Paris Roubaix, it’s hard to argue with that sentiment.

The one-piece integrated handlebars don’t have completely integrated cable routing, which makes it look a little old fashioned now, but this at least means it’s likely to be a slightly easier bike to live with for the home mechanic.

Like the Addict RC though, the Foil range also appears to be disc-brake only in 2020 — sorry, #savetherimbrake fans.

2020 Scott Foil Premium

Scott Foil Premium
If you like to go fast, and you want everyone to know about it, the Scott Foil Premium could be the bike for you. - Scott

The Scott Foil Premium combines a dreamy build of Shimano’s top of the range, Dura-Ace R9070 Di2, 50mm tubeless-ready carbon wheels, integrated carbon handlebars, and an eye-catching iridescent purple paint job. If you like to go fast, and you want everyone to know about it, this could be the bike for you.

  • Frame: Foil Disc HMX carbon frame
  • Fork: Foil Disc HMX fork
  • Drivetrain: Shimano Dura-Ace R9070 Di2 2x11
  • Wheels: Syncros Capital 1.0 50 disc
  • Tyres: Schwalbe Pro One Microskin TL 28mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-R9170 hydraulic disc
  • Handlebar: Syncros RR 1.0 Aero Carbon
  • Seatpost: Syncros Duncan 1.0
  • Saddle: Syncros Belcarra V-Concept 1.0
  • Price: £8,099 / €8,499

2020 Scott Foil 10

Scott Foil 10
The Scott Foil 10 brings 99% of the performance at about two thirds of the price of the Premium build. - Scott

If you can’t stomach the price of the Premium build, the Foil 10 brings 99 per cent of the performance at about two-thirds of the price.

With a slightly lower grade carbon frame and fork, and Ultegra rather than Dura-Ace Di2, it’s simply gaining a little weight, and while it doesn’t have the integrated carbon handlebar setup, the traditional bar and stem will be easier to swap out for a more custom fit, should you require it.

  • Frame: Foil Disc HMF carbon frame
  • Fork: Foil Disc HMF fork
  • Drivetrain: Shimano Ultegra R8070 Di2 Disc 2x11
  • Wheels: Syncros Capital 1.0 50 disc
  • Tyres: Schwalbe ONE Race-Guard 28mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-R8070 hydraulic disc
  • Handlebar: Syncros Creston 1.5 Aero Alloy
  • Seatpost: Syncros Duncan 1.0
  • Saddle: Syncros Belcarra V-Concept 2.0
  • Price: £4,999 / €5,499

2020 Scott Foil 20

Scott Foil 20
If you already own a set of race wheels, the Scott Foil 20 might be the ideal build for you. - Scott

While still not cheap, Scott looks to cater for those on a slightly tighter budget with the Foil 20.

It gets the same HMF grade carbon frame as the Foil 10, but mechanical Shimano Ultegra R8020 gearing and low-profile alloy wheels — no Di2 or carbon wheels here, sadly.

If you already have a set of race wheels though, this could be a good way to get on the Foil platform at a reduced cost.

  • Frame: Foil Disc HMF carbon frame
  • Fork: Foil Disc HMF fork
  • Drivetrain: Shimano Ultegra R8020 Disc 2x11
  • Wheels: Syncros RR2.0 Disc
  • Tyres: Schwalbe One Race-Guard 28mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-R8070 hydraulic disc
  • Handlebar: Syncros Creston 1.5 Aero Alloy
  • Seatpost: Syncros Duncan 1.0
  • Saddle: Syncros Belcarra V-Concept 2.0
  • Price: £3,199 / €3,499

2020 Scott Addict range overview

With a more endurance-focussed geometry and components to match, the Addict is designed with long days in the saddle in mind.

2020 Scott Addict SE Disc

Scott Addict SE Disc

Although the Foil can be raced at Paris Roubaix, if us mere mortals had to choose a bike to go ride the sportive on the day before, the Addict is probably a better choice.

Specced with 30mm tyres as standard, tubeless-ready wheels and more relaxed geometry that favours stability and comfort, the Addict SE Disc is the kind of race bike more of us should probably be riding.

  • Frame: Addict Disc HMF carbon frame
  • Fork: Addict HMF fork
  • Drivetrain: Shimano Ultegra R8070 Di2 Disc 2x11
  • Wheels: Syncros RP2.0 Disc
  • Tyres: Schwalbe One 30mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-R8070 hydraulic disc
  • Handlebar: Syncros Creston 2.0 Compact Alloy
  • Seatpost: Syncros Duncan 1.0
  • Saddle: Syncros Tofino Regular 2.0 Channel
  • Price: £3,499 / €3,799

2020 Scott Addict 20

Scott Addict 20
The Scott Addict 20 is a well-considered build, with a classy finish and a sensible price. - Scott

With clean lines, mid-range components and an understated paint job, the Addict 20 isn’t going to set the world on fire, but at this level it doesn’t have to.

It’s a well-considered build, with a Shimano 105 R7000 drivetrain, a classy finish and a sensible price. And if you simply can’t imagine a 2020 road bike without disc brakes, the Addict 20 Disc is only £200 / €300 more.

  • Frame: Addict HMF carbon frame
  • Fork: Addict HMF fork
  • Drivetrain: Shimano 105 R7000 2x11
  • Wheels: Syncros RP2.0
  • Tyres: Schwalbe One 28mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-R7000 Rim

  • Saddle: Syncros Tofino Regular 2.0 Channel
  • Price: £1,699 / €1,799

2020 Scott Contessa Addict range overview

The Contessa Addict is Scott’s dedicated women’s road racing platform.

While it doesn’t have the integration of the Addict RC, it does have a host of other features that make it an ideal bike for general road riding.

The three models in the range have women’s-specific geometries and components, and have range-specific paint jobs too, including, of course, pink

2020 Scott Contessa Addict 15 Disc

With a sub-kilo frame and lightweight fork, Scott says the Contessa Addict is a women’s-specific bike built for the mountains. We think it’s a lot more versatile than a pure-climbing bike though, thanks to the addition of hydraulic disc brakes and 30mm tyres.

  • Frame: Addict Disc HMF carbon frame
  • Fork: Addict HMF fork
  • Drivetrain: Shimano Ultegra R8020 Disc 2x11
  • Wheels: Syncros RP2.0 Disc
  • Tyres: Schwalbe One 30mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-R8070 hydraulic disc
  • Handlebar: Syncros Creston 2.0 Compact Alloy
  • Seatpost: Syncros Duncan 1.0
  • Saddle: Syncros Celista V-Concept 2.0
  • Price: £2,299 / €2,499

2020 Scott Addict Gravel range overview

As one 2019’s hottest cycling niches, Scott has duly updated its gravel range.

The Addict Gravel now sees Shimano’s new dedicated gravel gearing across the range, and while they’re all double chainring setups, the frameset is still as racy as it ever was.

2020 Scott Addict Gravel 10

With Shimano’s latest Di2 GRX gravel groupset, and 40mm tubeless-ready carbon wheels (23mm internal width), the Addict Gravel 10 looks to be an aggressive gravel race bike, built for going fast no matter how bad the road surface.

Women’s specific builds are also available, under the Contessa Addict Gravel range.

  • Frame: Addict Gravel Disc HMX carbon frame
  • Fork: Addict Gravel Disc HMX
  • Drivetrain: Shimano GRX RX810 Di2 2x11

  • Tyres: Schwalbe G-One Evolution 700 x 35mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-RX810 Hydraulic Disc

  • Price: £5,899 / €6,499

2020 Scott Addict Gravel 30

Scott Addict Gravel 30

The Addict Gravel 30 frame and fork use a slightly lower grade of carbon than the Addict Gravel 10, which does add a few 100 grams to the frameset weight, but that combined with sensible component swaps drops the price considerably.

You still get dedicated gravel components, and the colour combinations look great.

  • Frame: Addict Gravel Disc HMF carbon frame
  • Fork: Addict Gravel Disc HMF
  • Drivetrain: Shimano GRX RX600 2x11
  • Wheels: Syncros RP2.0 Disc
  • Tyres: Schwalbe G-One Allround 700 x 35mm
  • Brakes: Shimano BR-RX400 Hydraulic Disc
  • Handlebar: Syncros Creston 2.0 Flare Alloy
  • Seatpost: Syncros RR1.2 Carbon/AL
  • Saddle: Syncros Tofino Regular 2.0 Cutout
  • Price: £2,799 / €2,999

2020 Scott Speedster Gravel range overview

N+1 can be an expensive proposition, so if you’re looking to scratch that gravel itch on a budget, Scott thinks the Speedster Gravel range might be of interest.

Built around a more value focussed alloy frame, the whole range nevertheless has Shimano’s GRX gravel gearing and smart-looking paint jobs that belie their price points.

2020 Scott Speedster Gravel 30

Clearly built to compete with the likes of the Canyon Grail AL, the Speedster Gravel 30 brings Shimano’s dedicated gravel gearing to a smart-looking alloy frame.

Women’s specific builds are also available, under the Contessa Speedster Gravel moniker.

  • Frame: Speedster Gravel Disc alloy frame
  • Fork: Speedster Carbon Disc
  • Drivetrain: Shimano GRX RX400 2x10

  • Seatpost: Syncros RR2.5
  • Saddle: Syncros Tofino Regular 2.5
  • Price: £1,299 / €1,399

2020 Scott Addict CX range overview

There’s only one bike in Scott’s cyclocross (CX) range, but it looks like a good one. It’s essentially the same frameset as the Scott Addict Gravel, with components tailored specifically to CX racing.

Scott Addict CX RC

Shimano’s GRX gravel groupset appears again, but this time in 1x form, for a racier setup. You also get a smart chain keeper, just for a touch of extra security.

Additionally, the rear dropouts are replaceable, so if your rear derailleur gets trashed in an unfortunate racing incident, the frame shouldn’t be a write off.

  • Frame: Addict CX HMF carbon frame
  • Fork: Addict CX HMF disc
  • Drivetrain: Shimano GRX RX810 1x11
  • Wheels: Syncros RP2.0 Disc

  • Seatpost: Syncros Duncan 1.0
  • Saddle: Syncros Tofino Regular 2.0 Cutout
  • Price: £3,499 / €3,799

2020 Scott Speedster range overview

The Speedster is Scott’s alloy road bike platform. Available in either rim or disc brake builds, Scott offers a range of thoughtful builds with options right down to under £600.

2020 Scott Speedster 20

Scott Speedster 20

Value focussed road bikes aren’t always renowned for their good looks, but the Speedster 20 might be set to change that.

It’s tasteful blue paint job and tan wall tyres combine to create a package that looks like it costs a lot more than it does. Women’s specific builds are also available, under the Contessa Speedster range.
