Hiplok expands 1000 Series with new D-lock and ground anchors

Hiplok pioneered the use of Ferosafe, a graphene composite material, on its D1000 D-lock, which proved to be one of the toughest locks our sister publication Cycling Plus has tested.

The British brand has now announced the expansion of the 1000 series to include a new lock and ground anchors that are claimed to resist angle grinders better than other materials commonly found in the best bike locks.

Hiplok says the new lock and ground anchor can secure your bike, electric bike or even your motorbike in place.

The additions to the Hiplok 1000 Series launched on Kickstarter on 8 November with introductory discounts for the first backers. Expected delivery for pre-orders is spring 2024.

Hiplok’s co-founder, Ben Smith, tells BikeRadar angle grinders are becoming a common tool used by bike thieves, so the brand has aimed to create “the ultimate security system for home and away”.

The Ferosafe material used in the expanded 1000 series is a graphene composite that's welded to the metal core of a lock shackle and casing.

Ferosafe is said to resist high-power angle grinders and drills at a much lower thickness (and therefore weight) than traditional hardened metals, making it ideal for bike locks that need to be transported.

Materials such as Ferosafe and Barronium are used by fellow UK lock maker Litelok to add greater cutting resistance.

Alongside the DXF lock we reviewed in 2021, Hiplok's expanded range now includes a larger-sized D-lock, the DX1000.

Cycling Plus’ only criticism of the D1000 was its compact dimensions made it tricky to fit on ebikes and with some suspension designs.

The new DX1000 expands the size to 290x180x45mm, which should be large enough for locking electric mountain bikes and e-cargo bikes.

Ground anchors

Joining the new D-lock are two new ground anchors.

The range-topping AX1000 is different from anchors we’ve seen before.

Smith says: “I, like many riders, have expensive lightweight carbon bikes at home and it's always a precarious business trying to thread a heavyweight chain through the frame, where one slip could be catastrophic.

“That got us thinking about making a ground/wall anchor that could do the job of a chain and also use our D1000 and DX1000.”

The AX1000 combines a two-piece reinforced base with eight anchor points that hold a 360-degree rotating arm that can also pivot 180 degrees.

The 430mm-long arm has an eye at the end, designed to hold the D1000 and D1000x’s base, though you could thread any lock, cable or chain through it.

The position of the anchor can be adjusted to accommodate many different bike frames and folds flat when not in use. The arm and the base have a Ferosafe outer shell.

The second ground anchor is the A1000. This is similar to typical ground anchors, but like the AX1000 it uses a clamshell-like base design.

The base enables the anchor section to rotate 360 degrees, making it more versatile than standard anchors.

Like the AX1000, it is supplied with all of the necessary hardware to install it.

Both the AX1000 and A1000 are built to be used either indoors or outside.
