In the quest to find the best bike of 2014, the Cycling Plus test team just had to check out the BMC Team Machine SLR02 – a debut bike from the Swiss brand that shared its design DNA with the bikes that Cadel Evans and Tejay van Garderen ride on the pro team.

The Shimano 105 equipped bike very nearly made it to the top of the list of £1,500 to £2,000 bikes, but had to settle for the runner-up position. “It’s got great comfort levels that we very rarely see in such an aggressive race machine,” commented Warren Rossiter, Cycling Plus and BikeRadar technical editor.
“It’s absolutely stunningly fast when you want it to be and superbly comfortable. And for the sort of rider who wants to go out and smash Strava times all the time, we can’t think of a better companion to do it on.”
The ultimate prize for the Cycling Plus Bike of the Year 2014 went to the Cannondale Synapse 5.
