For oligarchs, entrepreneurs and those content just to window shop, we take a look at five of the most exclusive (and expensive) road superbikes coming out in 2016.
Top 5 road superbikes of 2016
Our list kicks off with Lightweight’s collaboration with Audi on the €17,500 Audi Sport Racing Bike, featuring Lightweight’s Urgestalt frame and Meilenstein carbon clinchers, topped with a custom Selle Italia saddle made from the same nappa leather used in Audi’s R8 supercar.
Bringing some Italian flair to the party is Colnago’s collaboration with another car marque, in this case Ferrari, though there’s only a small prancing horse on the chainstays to indicate that. Elsewhere there’s a bright lime-green paint job and, perhaps surprisingly, a Dura-Ace groupset rather than Campagnolo’s Super Record.
Cipollini's stunning NK1K
Continuing the Italian theme is Cipollini’s NK1K, which is billed as a slightly more comfortable version of the founder’s race bike, and comes with some incredible looking Fluxos wheels. We don’t know much about these Italian-made hoops yet, but it’s well worth visiting the maker’s website.
Back to Germany and another Lightweight bike, this time their Fahrwerk Gold. Hold onto your hats, because this one’s priced at €24,000 thanks to the 24-carat gold leaf ‘tastefully’ applied in key places on the bike like hubs and handlebars. Only 24 have been made, so you’ll need to be quick with that remortgage application.
Finally, Czech firm Festka has subverted expectations on carbon/titanium bikes with its Doppler model, which uses carbon lugs with titanium tubes, to provide Ti comfort paired with carbon efficiency. A fully custom option, you can rest assured that your investment will fit perfectly.
… so which of these bikes would you buy first, if you won the lottery tomorrow? Let us know in the comments below!
