POC are based just outside Stockholm and specialise in protective kit aimed at the mountain sports sector. Recently however they're turning their hand to all things bike having signed up names such as Andrew Shandro, the SUNN factory team and DJ/Street thrasher Martin Soderstrom.
Apart from anything else their stuff looks the muts so we thought we'd have a closer look...
POC's helmets draw heavily from their experience in the ski helmet market and feature their patented APB system. This Aramid ballistic Penetration Barrier system basically means that there is a layer of penetration resistant material sandwiched between the shell and the liner. This helps in reducing their thickness, reducing weight yet increasing protection.
The top of the range Cortex DH is constructed from full carbon whilst a cheaper composite version called the Cortex Flow is also available. Yet more abbreviation in the shape of POC's VDSAP, channels air flow around the helmet keeping you cool.
Their Receptor piss-pot style helmet is certified for use with bike, snow, skateboard and water sports for the ultra-busy set. This is acheived via a closable venting system and removable ear pieces. The Receptor Flow does without the bells and whistles and is a more traditional bike-specific piss-pot.
Body armour comes in two guises; Bone which come in hard shell Polypropylene and VPD which is essentially a shock-absorbing dough that allows greater flexibility and comfort.
They do a mint range of goggles too plus a load of gloves and tasty off the bike wear which should all be heading to the UK very soon. Stay tuned to MBUK for all the latest news and reviews...
