16 hours in, James and Rebecc have managed just one hot food stop, and are now geared up with lots of hi-vis kit, super-bright bike and helmet lights from Ay-Up Lights and are set for the first cycle through the night, which will take them up to Shap Fell. At the current rate they could hit the summit of this Cumbrian climb any time after 4am (the schedule has them hitting the peak at 5:53 but hey if you're on top of a Cumbrian hill in the early hours you might as well be out for a while eh?...) Pete Slater of nutrition sponsor SiS says he's planning to be out on the road in Preston between 1:30 and 2am...
James and Rebecca are both in good spirits and have managed their longest break of the ride so far this evening – 20 whole minutes. Many supporters have come out in groups to cheer them on, waving union jack flags and clapping the pair as they pass. There was a vague threat of rain earlier but the weather remained dry as they spend the early evening hours powering along the A49 then A6 on their way towards the England/Scotland border.
