These eye-catching red rock eaters from DT Swiss are expensive, but they offer excellent all-round performance.
Our last set was hammered by Mountain Biking UK's Doddy before being beasted at Whistler, via New Zealand’s best downhill runs. Apart from needing some new spokes and occasional servicing, they’re still going strong despite frames and forks dying along the way.
They’re also harder and less prone to dent than DT’s 5.1 and 6.1 rims, which these sit between in weight. The 28mm width works with tyres up to 2.4in too.
The bearings have proved tough despite all-year, all-weather use. The two-pawl freehub is slightly slow to pick up, but they’re light enough for hardcore trail use, leaving only their cost as a potential obstacle.
