Our review
Bit heavy and low on power, but rich and reliable with universally available spares

They’ve never been showstoppers but Shimano’s Deore brakes boast reliability and fit-and-forget convenience. Unlike other Shimano brakes they come fully bled and ready to fit with a universal mount, which avoids hassle.

Power is below par for a given rotor size, but you can easily boost it with bigger discs (up to 203mm) if you want, and subtle control is good too.

They can boil up or fade in heavy high mountain use and the original pads don’t last long in winter conditions. They’re a bit heavier than other budget options too. Having used countless sets we know they’re totally reliable. You’ll find bits for them pretty much everywhere, which isn’t always guaranteed with budget brakes.
