You don’t expect to find waterproof shorts that you like for their looks as much as you appreciate their functionality, but Maloja may have changed that. The Stulanza is a slim cut, which has more of the look of a board short with its wide waistband and curved white stripe trim. But made from lightweight SympaTex it doesn’t just look good – it works extremely well.
We’ve reached for these on long warmer, but wet days and they really do have a barely there feel. There’s no excess fabric to flap around and we didn’t overheat. We haven’t found any problems so far with their durability either – there is a heavier, textured seat panel that extends down the inside of the legs. It not only helps prevent wear from the saddle and pedalling but stops you sliding around, which can happen with very smooth waterproof fabrics.
We like the internal waist adjusters that pull from the back towards the front, for a more secure fit, especially in this case as the back curves nicely high anyway. Fashion and function? Yes please...
