The first thing we noticed about this jacket was the soft-feeling material used compared to most cycling waterproofs. The Xirtam (pronounced zeer-tam) uses several materials laminated together, which produces a fabric that's not only both wind and waterproof but breathable, too.
To achieve this, GoLite have laminated a stretchy poly interlock waterproof outer with a breathable film and a poly interlock liner, which takes care of wicking duties. Not only does this mean it's soft and wind/waterproof but provides a stretchy material for a really good fit.
All the seams are taped to avoid any leaks and the articulated hood helps to keep the rain away from your face. The front has a full watertight zip along with draft flap and zip garage to avoid any irritation around your neck. There are adjustable closures on both the wrists and neck to keep you sealed in and keep drafts at bay.
Two useful pockets on the sides and a small chest pocket provide plenty of room to stash your essentials. There are also two mesh vents towards the rear for further temperature control. With all these features the Xirtam doesn't fit into the easy-stash lightweight category of bike jackets, but it's a truly comfortable workhorse that works well both on and off the bike.
