The Pentax W90 is a 12.1 megapixel digital camera that’s waterproof to 6m, shockproof to 1.2m and coldproof to minus 10°C – all essential features for any cyclist. The W90 has certainly been through the grinder and become a necessity on test rides, taking pretty much anything we’ve thrown at it out on the hills.
Chunky and not that light, the camera has a rubber finish and plastic moulding that scream toughness. It’s also available in a bunch of bright colours. Battery life is excellent – the rechargeable lithium ion battery will easily see you through an action packed weekend. The W90 doesn’t fail on image quality either. The 12.1 megapixel resolution is more than you’ll ever need and clarity and colour depth are excellent.
The 5x wide-angle optical zoom and HD movie recording are fantastic for capturing movement, and we really like the digital microscope mode for getting all arty. Talking modes, there are hundreds. Our favourites are the sports, macro and stitch, which combines three shots seamlessly – great for landscapes. There are also in-camera editors that let you rotate, crop and tweak as you go.
