You can now adjust your smart bike lights and music player with your Wahoo bike computer, with GoPro control soon to follow.
Wahoo says software updates enable you to turn these connected devices on and off, and switch modes by pressing buttons on an Elemnt Roam or Bolt.
The brand has also integrated more third-party training apps with its bike computers. Meanwhile, the new Dark Mode makes the screen easy to read in different light conditions, according to Wahoo.
Lights, camera, action!
By syncing your GoPro with your bike computer, Wahoo says you’ll be able to start and stop recording, take photos and adjust camera settings from your bike computer.
This should be much easier and safer than pressing buttons on your action camera itself, wherever it is mounted.
Wahoo is yet to confirm when GoPro Control will launch.
Remote light control
Wahoo users will be able to use Smart Light Control immediately.
Wahoo says its computers can pair with ANT+ compatible smart bike lights, including from Bontrager and Garmin, to switch them on and off and change brightness.
Remote-controlled front bike lights, such as the Magicshine 2600B Smart Remote Bike Light, are becoming more common. And you can buy a separate remote for the Garmin Varia rear light.
But if you have a smart bike light without a remote, Smart Light Control could prove useful if you need to adjust the settings, especially of your rear light, on the go.
Wahoo says the automatic light activation setting switches your lights on at the start of a ride and off at the end.
This will chime with anyone who has pedalled off after forgetting to turn on their lights, or left them on during the post-ride cafe stop.
Press play
The new Music Control provides a page on your Wahoo where you can play, pause and skip tracks – and change the volume.
This function will also save you from reaching for your phone to listen to another episode of the BikeRadar Podcast in your cycling headphones.
What Training Plan users have been waiting for
Wahoo’s new Training Plan Integration means you can now send structured workouts to your bike computer from more third-party cycling apps.
These include Humango, Final Surge, Nolio and Join. Wahoo says more will follow.
When you’re following a training plan, scheduled sessions will automatically load to your Wahoo. If you choose to do the workout, the prescribed intervals pop up on your screen, telling you which training zone to ride in for how long.
Compared to writing out the session format and sticking it on your stem or memorising it, this is a simpler way of completing a gruelling workout, such as VO2 max intervals.
Previously, the third-party alternatives to Wahoo X, Wahoo’s own training app, were limited to Training Peaks and indoor cycling apps, such as TrainerRoad.
