An Australian start-up hopes that tire inflation will soon become another chore humans delegate to robots. Fumpa has developed a pair of nearly pocket-sized electric tire inflators with the ability to pump your tires from flat to full in under a minute.
The Fumpa
The Fumpa can inflate six 700×23c road tires up to 120psi on one charge. The company claims it can inflate a 700×23c tire from 0–100psi in approximately 20–25 seconds.
The head is convertible between Presta and Schrader valves. There’s also a 1.5-meter extension hose, which is sold separately.
The digital gauge can display pressure in psi, bar or kpa and has a claimed accuracy of +/-3%.
MiniFumpa
The MiniFumpa is a downsized version that does away with the hose in favor of a dedicated Presta valve mounted to its anodized aluminum body. It can easily fit in a jersey pocket and is designed to replace a CO2 cartridge and inflator.
According to the company, this 190g unit can inflate four 700×23c tires to 120psi on a single charge. It’s slightly slower than the original, requiring between 40–50 seconds to pump a 700×23c tire up to 100 psi.
Both versions come with micro-USB charging cables.
The company notes that the Fumpa and MiniFumpa aren’t the best options for seating tubeless tires. This should come as no surprise, given the lack of an air chamber to hold the volume of compressed air required to seat stubborn tubeless systems.
The Fumpa retails for $179 while the MiniFumpa sells for $129. (UK and Australian pricing TBC.) Visit www.fumpapumps.com for more information.
