Campagnolo has unveiled a new Shamal wheelset with a wavy profile – a first for the Italian brand – at Velofollies.
The mid-depth wheels continue to use Campagnolo's signature G3 spoke lacing and appear to sport very similar hubs to its existing wheelsets.
Wavy rim profiles – first introduced by Zipp with its 454 NSW wheels in 2016 – are claimed to improve handling without sacrificing aero performance versus a deeper rim.

Princeton CarbonWorks, Fulcrum (a subsidiary of Campagnolo), LightBicycle and others have since followed with their own takes on the design.

Campagnolo's wavy profile is less pronounced than Zipp's, with raised sections where the spokes meet the rim, dropping to a narrower depth between each.
Tucked away on a bike fitted to a smart trainer, Campagnolo staff on the stand wouldn't be drawn to comment on further details. Campagnolo has been contacted for comment.
