Shimano’s new S-Phyre SL sunglasses weigh less than 24g and are said to help you ride at your best.

The lightweight glasses are part of Shimano’s 2025 eyewear collection, which also includes the new Equinox and Pulsar models.

Shimano says all three cycling sunglasses “deliver the ultimate in speed, style, and functionality for optimal performance in any riding condition”.

Following the Japanese giant’s naming conventions, the S-Phyre glasses sit at the top of the range. Their frameless design means they weigh next to nothing, with that ‘SL’ in the name standing for Super-Light.

All three pairs of cycling sunglasses feature Shimano’s Ridescape Lens Technology. There are lens options for different riding conditions and terrain types.

This technology is said to help transmit the right amount of light to boost visibility and accentuate details, a bit like the Prizm technology used in Oakley sunglasses

All three pairs of glasses have frames made from bio-based polyamide materials.

Shimano says the S-Phyre SL sunglasses have a super-light, one-piece lens and a rimless design to “drop every gram of weight possible”.

The result is a set of shades that are claimed to weigh 23.7g, which is roughly 5g lighter than the 2023 S-Phyre glasses.

If you’re wondering how glasses that light don’t just float off your face, Shimano says the curved temples ensure a secure – and comfortable – fit.

The glasses are said to be suitable for riders with smaller faces or for anyone looking for a sleeker fit.

The frames are made from bio-based polyamide materials.

At the top of Shimano’s range, the S-Phyre-SL glasses cost $150 / €149.95.

Shimano says the new Equinox glasses offer “tech-infused style and versatility”.

With performance features borrowed from Shimano’s S-Phyre glasses, the Equinox glasses have a half-rim frame with a temple design said to offer a secure fit.

The cutout temple design is also said to integrate with a wide range of cycling helmets

“Equipped with a one-piece cylindrical lens for a wide field of view, EQUINOX offers enhanced wraparound protection, shielding your eyes from wind, debris, and the elements,” Shimano says.

The glasses weigh a claimed 25.2g and cost $125 / €119.95.

Designed for mountain biking and gravel riding, the Shimano Pulsar glasses have a large, one-piece lens for extra protection and visibility on the trail.

The lower rim is detachable so you can customise the Pulsars to your personal preference.

Shimano provides a photochromic lens with the Pulsars, which it says is “ideal for variable light conditions”.

These specs weigh a claimed 29.8g and will set you back $100 / €89.95.
