Q: Please can you give me some advice on buying a new bike? I want one that's good for doing tricks and getting air but can still be used like a mountain bike for long rides over rough terrain. What bike do you think I should choose? >Alex Whitelaw, email
A: This is something we often get asked - I'm assuming you don't have thousands of pounds to play with so it's worth keeping the bike reasonably simple. The Identiti Mr Hyde is a great tough and aggressive-riding all-round hardtail for around £1,000 complete, depending on the build. For more info call 01223 213800 or go to www.identitibikes.com. >
For something a little more basic but much less costly, have a look at DMR's new singlespeed bike - the Drone. It features a 4130 chromoly steel frame and rigid fork, three-piece cranks and V-brakes. Although it's designed for street riding and dirt jumping, the complete bike will tick most of your boxes and be plenty strong for £399.
In between this and the Mr Hyde is the DMR Trailstar for £899 - a great do-it-all bike. Call 01403 711611 or see www. dmrbikes.com for more details.
