'Robot says UP and BEEP' is dobbed in red marker pen alongside a crude drawing of a robot on top of a taped up box. The box is pretty big (big enough to get an averaged-sized girlfriend or two Collie dogs in) and contains my new Transition Covert long-term bike.

I'd love to regale you with facts, figures, first impressions and well, the usual banter about the Covert but before I do there's the small matter of putting it together...

It's not in the 'just throw the wheels on and straighten the bars' state most of our test bikes arrive in. In fact, most of the parts are all still in their own packaging. Brilliant!

No really, I'm not being sarky. This isn't some kind of journalistic strop, I'm relishing the prospect of a night in, a few beers and a bike build. Having built up my own Santa Cruz Blur 4X a few months back I can't wait to get going at the Transition. Remember how Lego felt when you were younger? It's a bit like that but greasier and more rewarding.

Anyway, I'm off to make WRC pit-stop sound effects and swear a bit. Hopefully see you on Monday for an update on how I got on and maybe even a little video too...
