Giro has expanded its New Road line of casual-looking performance wear to include a batch of women's ride clothing. Similar to the men's line, which was launched last year, the women's New Road is designed to be layered, and offer the functionality of high-end cycling clothes without the racer look.
The Giro New Road women's line starts with underlayers like merino boy shorts with a super-thin chamois and a mesh undershirt with back pockets, and goes up through casual shorts, pants, shirts and jerseys, and then on to vests and jackets.

While there are a few jerseys that look like, well, jerseys, most of the clothing does not look like the typical Lycra-and-polyester pieces you see hanging in a bike shop.
"When we looked around at clothing before New Road, most everything we saw was race-inspired," said New Road director Nathan Mack. "There was some urban stuff, but without any real performance. So when we began New Road we introduced things like a bib undershort with storage and a fly, which frees you up to wear what you want riding around, whether that's a polo or a t-shirt. Now Giro New Road runs the spectrum from commuting to a long ride."

The women's New Road line uses fabrics like Primaloft Sport, Polartec Neoshell (which is quite similar to Gore-Tex), Nycore wool and merino wool.
The Ride Leggings are a good example of New Road's differentiated style. With a clear equestrian influence, the four-way stretch Herringbone pants feature faux pockets and lower leg zip closures. The Mobility Shorts and Trousers, as with the men's, all come in tailored (skinny) and classic fits. They are also made with a four-way stretch DWR (water-resistant) fabric.

The current Giro New Road men's clothing ranges from US$60 to US$200, so the women's collection will likely be priced similarly.
Giro also has new helmet that matches the New Road clothing called the Aspect. The 205g helmet is pegged at US$175 and comes in four colors. It uses the RocLoc Air securing system from Giro's Air Attack, and has a thin profile to minimize the visual impact of a helmet.
On the other end of the rider, Giro also has a new women's lace-up shoe called the Civila.
