They might be due to be ridden by pro triathletes rather than pure cyclists, but we couldn’t resist showing you these patriotically painted Boardman frames, which will be used by Olympic triathlon gold and bronze medallists Alistair and Jonny Brownlee.

These special edition versions of Boardman’s latest aero road bike platform have been created for Yorkshire’s famous triathlete brothers ahead of this weekend’s World Triathlon Series event in London’s Hyde Park.

According to Boardman Bikes’ James Ryan, the new paint job – reminiscent of Bradley Wiggins’ Pinarello Bolide – is designed to ensure the brothers don’t go unnoticed during the ride.

“The standard black and yellow Boardman Elite Air 9.8 bikes that they usually ride have been stripped, sanded back and meticulously hand painted in blue and red with a Union Jack emblazoned on the head tube to match the side panels of their GB sprint suits.”

It's precise work, but the effort is worth it: it's precise work, but the effort is worth it

It's painstaking work, but worth it!

There’s no word yet on whether such a paint scheme will reach mass production, though Ryan states: “The reaction so far has been fantastic. A number of people have already asked if we will be producing more special editions that are available to buy.”

It would certainly mark you out from the largely monochromatic tones of most club runs.
