Earlier in the month, Joaquim Rodriguez announced his retirement from professional cycling at the end of the 2016 season. A professional since 2001, Purito leaves the sport as one of the most consistent and competitive cyclists in one-day Classics, week-long stage races as well as three-week Grand Tours. With an eye on both the Olympics and the Vuelta a España later in the year, we could yet see more victories from the Catalan.

Rodriguez’s Canyon features a one-off paint job, compared to the standard issue Canyons on the Katusha team. The predominantly silver frame also features a black and red finish as well as the rider's nickname; Purito (little cigar) on the top tube. Complementing the special paint job, Rodriguez also has a custom Selle Italia saddle featuring further artwork of his nickname.

The angular and bladed tubing of the Aeroad contribute to the Canyon’s aerodynamics, clearances are also tight with a curved seat tube following the profile of the rear wheel.
SRAM Red eTap is the groupset of choice on Rodriguez’s bike; the wireless and electronic groupset results in fewer cables on the bike and contributes to the Canyon’s clean aesthetic.
Zipp wheels and Continental rubber complete the build, providing Rodriguez with his final season bike — and surely one to remember.
