Shimano's new XTR M980 groupset comes with a choice of two pedals – the trail-orientated PD-M985 or more racey PD-M980 – and it looks like the Japanese componentry giants are developing two SPD shoes to match.
At this stage details are scarce, as the design of the shoes has yet to be finalised, but we have managed to get shots of the prototype SH-M315 and SH-M240.
The SH-M315 looks particularly interesting, as it appears to combine the heat-mouldable custom fit and durability of Shimano's current top-end mountain bike shoe, the SH-M310, with a sole that should finally provide reasonable traction when on foot.
Other features include a semi-rigid toe cap, new vents to pull in more cooling air and a heel cup that wraps up and around the back of your foot. We'll bring you more information on these shoes as and when we get it. UK distributors Madison are currently quoting prices of £269.99 for the M315 and £179.99 for the M240.
