Effectively a slimmed down version of the gravity-orientated 2FO (Foot out, Flat Out) Clip shoe, the new 2FO ClipLite shoe has been designed for the mass-market trail rider.
The nylon sole features Specialized’s ‘Lollipop’ ¾ shank for increased stiffness at the pedal, but still offers a softer and more comfortable sole at the heel for when off the bike. Unlike most traditional cycling shoes, the 2FO ClipLite features an EVA mid-sole for some padded comfort while walking.
Thick sole padding makes these quite different to more traditional mountain bike shoes
Using a grippy Slipnot rubber for the flat outersole, the sole also features the ‘Landing Strip’ for ease in finding the pedal.
Compared to the more relaxed fit of the original 2FO, the new ClipLite uses a slimmer and snugger fitting standard last. Speaking of fit, Specialized Body Geometry design is present, with a 1.5mm varus wedge built into the sole, and the lowest arch footbed provided too.
The original 2FO compared to the 2FO ClipLite
Sitting at a claimed 50g lighter per shoe than the 2FO clip, the ClipLite drops the weight with a slimmed down sole, a new thermo-bonded upper and easy to use (and replace) S2 Boa dials for retention. Despite the lighter construction, Specialized claims the ClipLite to retain good foot protection, especially at the toe area.
The 2FO ClipLite will be available in both men's and women's-specific models. For the men, there will be four colour choices in the form of black/monster green, black/dark grey, black/white or oak green/gum. For the ladies, there will be the choice of a ultra bright 'hyper green/black' or a more subtle black/dark grey.
The new 2FO ClipLite will retail for US$180 / AU$269 / UK£TBC. Shoes are expected to start hitting dealer floors from mid July.
