Shimano have launched an all-new product line for 2013 – cycling bags. The Japanese company's debut luggage range is due to hit shops in October and includes various size backpacks plus a messenger bag.
The flagship model is the ACCU3D Unzen, a hydration pack that features Shimano's new Rider Fit Cross Harness system – essentially, the shoulder straps meet in front of the chest, doing away with the need for a separate sternum strap or hip belt.
On show at this week's iceBike* show in Milton Keynes, it's aimed at aggressive off-road riding and, according to Shimano, is "precision-engineered to fit the natural riding position", with each part "shaped to create a body-hugging fit that stays molded to the rider’s back".
The ACCU3D Unzen is available in three sizes – 6l (£75 with 2l Hydrapak bladder), 10l (£85 with 2l bladder, £90 with 3l) or 15l (£100, 3l bladder) – and three colours. The harness is customisable to ensure a good fit. Other features include easy side access, storage for body armour, tool organiser pockets and a rear LED light loop.

The £50 ROKKO is a lightweight 12l daypack that's hydration-ready but doesn't come with a bladder (Shimano-branded reservoirs will be available separately), while the TSUKINIST – a blend of tsukin, Japanese for commuting, and cyclist – is aimed at urban riders, with a choice of 20l (£80) or 30l (£90) capacity and some neat features including a breathable back panel, padded laptop section, a smartphone pocket on the shoulder strap and a bright coloured rain cover.

Last up is the OSAKA messenger bag. Named after Shimano's home city, it's available in 25l (£80) and 35l (£90) sizes, and features a quick-adjust strap system, an organiser panel and a padded laptop compartment. For more information, visit bike.shimano.com or www.madison.co.uk.
