The sixth annual International Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day is Saturday, October 3, 2009, in memory of North Carolina teen Jack Doub, who passed away in 2002.
"This event is a great opportunity for kids and groups to experience mountain biking for the first time or to get back on the saddle again," said International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) spokesperson Mark Eller. "We’ve created an online toolkit to help folks get the word out about creating an event. In our toolkit, folks will find posters and templates for press releases and fliers to help publicise an event."
IMBA can help you plan your own event - either large or small. Those who register an event by September 15 will be sent a Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day event-in-a-Box, which will include snacks, official race plates and special kids stickers to give away as prizes. Your group will also be eligible for any raffled prizes, and your event will also be listed on IMBA's website.
Funding is provided by the Jack Doub Memorial Endowment. The event takes place each year on the first Saturday in October.
Assistance is also provided by Trips for Kids, whose nationwide chapters help kids get out on the trails.
