Campagnolo have unveiled four new cyclo-cross chainsets and three wheels, just in time for the 2010/11 season. At this stage details are scant, but here's a quick first look...
Chainsets
The new CX chainset design is available in 10- and 11-speed versions, both with a choice of aluminium or carbon fibre crankarms, and 50/34T or 46/36T rings.
It comes with new CART (Cyclocross Advanced Racing Technology) chainrings which are claimed to offer fast and precise shifting even over rough ground or when covered in mud thanks to refined inner machining.
The bottom bracket uses Campag's single-piece-axle Power Torque System with 'cross-specific high-protection seals, designed to keep out mud and dust, and the company's normal narrow Q/U-factor.
The silver finish of the alloy versions is designed to complement Campag's Veloce, Centaur and Athena groupsets. The carbon fibre cranks get black anodised aluminium chainrings.
Wheels
The new Scirocco CX features machined sides to shave grams, variable section stainless steel spokes for a good balance of aerodynamics and high-speed stability, and enhanced sealing for improved durability in muddy or dusty conditions.
The rear wheel gets an oversize right-hand hub flange for improved lateral stiffness, plus G3 spoke lacing, which is claimed to optimise tension for efficient transmission of power.
The Vento Reaction CX shares many features of the Scirocco CX, including the G3 spoke pattern (in this case, front and rear), variable section spokes, oversize flanges and improved sealing. The rim's deep upper bridge should make swapping tyres and tubes easier.
Finally, the entry-level Khamsin CX once again shares many features with its bigger brothers, including the G3 spoke pattern, deep upper rim bridge and additional sealing, but downgrades to straight-head spokes. Claimed weight is 1,873g (weights for the other two wheels haven't been released yet).
There's no word yet on pricing or availability of these products, but we'll bring you more information as and when we get it.
