Red Bull will create the world’s smallest velodrome in London's East End next year for a unique fixed gear challenge. Racers will reach speeds of up to 80km/h on the tiny track, which has been purpose-built by Velotrack, the team behind the velodromes for the Atlanta Olympics and Delhi Commonwealth Games.
The Red Bull Mini Drome race will take place at York Hall in Bethnal Green on 15 January. It'll be open to all ages. 105 pre-registered riders will be selected at random to compete in qualifying, which will consist of a single 10-lap timed race. Non-registered riders can take a turn once they've finished.
Qualifying will run from 3pm to 6.30pm, with the main event – which will follow a single pursuit format – from 7pm until Midnight. You can pre-register at www.redbull.co.uk/minidrome or in store at 14 Bike Co., Tokyo Fixed Gear, Look Mum No Hands or Brick Lane Bikes. Registration closes at 5pm on 10 January 2011.
500 spectator tickets will be handed out on the night on a first come, first served basis. There's no entry fee but a donation to Herne Hill Velodrome would be welcome.
