Our review
One of the best, if not the best, full-face downhill helmets that money can buy Buy if, You want one of the best full-face helmets on the market

Pros:

Excellent fit feels secure and inspires confidence from the off; wide range of graphics/colours

Cons:

It’ll leave a bit of a hole in your wallet, but a composite shell, non-MIPS version is available for £300 / $375 / AU$600

It’s hard to argue with the desirability factor of the Troy Lee D3. The aggressive styling, the race-inspired graphics and the long list of pro riders who’ve worn one make this the lid that any aspiring downhill racer wants to own.

TLD has updated it for 2017 by tweaking the shape of the EPS liner, to add more protection and adjust the fit slightly. It's also added a MIPS layer on the top-end carbon models.

On the original D3, several of our testers found that the EPS moulding and the stitching on the fabric liner caused pressure points on the forehead. The revisions to the internal shape have overcome that, and it could now be the comfiest full-face I’ve used.

While the MIPS system does make it feel a bit snug initially, I was able to wear the same size as with the non-MIPS version.

Fit aside, the helmet is the same as ever, and it’s hard to find anything to fault. Vision is excellent, breathability is good and the carbon shell on this model makes it impressively light, at 1,098g in a size large.

It even comes with a soft carry case and a spare peak in case you get too friendly with the dirt.
