There are already a lot of decent front mountain bike mudguard options to choose from, but this new model from UK company Mudhugger is a welcome addition to that list.
It’s compatible with all three major wheel sizes and is quick and easy to install. We ditched the supplied velcro straps in favour of cable ties though, for a true fit-and-forget installation.
The Mudhugger sits very close to the front tyre but we didn’t experience any issues with it getting clogged up, even when conditions got gloopy, and it provides good protection from trail muck and puddles.
Its performance is on a par with the likes of the Mucky Nutz Bender Fender and Marshguard, although at 64g it is a touch heavier than these two.
Where the Mudhugger sets itself apart is in its construction – it's noticeably more substantial and stiffer than the competition, which is great considering the price. Its ability to keep muck from building around the dust seals of the fork is a nice bonus too.
