Clear and biodegradable, foaming bike wash works as claimed

Spray on bike wash isn’t a new concept, with the likes of Muc-Off having a strong following in the market already. WD-40 Bike is the latest entrant, with a biodegradable offering that claims to ‘foam’ away the dirt and grime.

The bike needs to be hosed down before and after application of the foaming wash. Foaming wash - like other bike cleaners - help to speed up the cleaning process, but are not a one-stop shop.

The dirt must be agitated with a brush or sponge, but we were then left with a perfectly clean surface. The cleaner no doubt helps to lift and break down the dirt, proven when we tried it on stubborn dried-out clay mud with success.

Like other bike washes, it’s safe to use all over the bike, but not strong enough for a greasy drivetrain. The degreaser is the right-tool for that job and when used together the results will be a fresh bike.

The plastic trigger is basic and one of our samples was faulty - leaking and lacking pressure. our other samples worked fine though: the plastic trigger is basic and one of our samples was faulty - leaking and lacking pressure. our other samples worked fine though David Rome / Future Publishing

The 1L bottle’s trigger head is easy to use and allows the solution to be sprayed all over the bike. The trigger is a basic plastic construction and we did experience an annoying leaking trigger on one sample bottle, but our others were without issue.

WD-40 have a wealth of experience in other markets to pull from and its first bike wash attempt is a good one. It does the job, but it’s not noticeably better or worse than other market favourites.
