One of those rare tyres that can do it all — justifying the price

One of the fastest-rolling full-tread mountain bike tyres around, Schwalbe Nobby Nics are the tyres of many top-flight cross-country racers and marathon riders.

We are happy fitting the Nobby Nic to almost any cross-country or trail bike, for any kind of condition and in any weather. Most of the time, it will find traction and self-clean — exactly what you want, whether you’re out for a weekend ride or keeping your part of a 24-hour fun team on track.

Schwalbe uses a super-thin Evolution casing (a slightly heavier and more durable SnakeSkin version is also available). On this is placed a triple compound tread construction.

It’s designed to put hard-wearing rubber on the centre sections where wear is high and you want the low-energy absorption to help you roll fast, with softer, stickier rubber in the intermediate and edge sections where you’ll require extra grip to stick turns. Nobby Nic also has a blocky open tread pattern that is faster than it looks.

They can be a bit prone to thorns and pinching on account of their thin casing, but just use some sealant like Sludge to flat-proof them.
