Rather than having a coil spring in the cleat-retaining mechanism, Time’s new iClics use a flexible strip of carbon/composite, keeping the weight impressively low.
The clamp stays open when your cleat isn’t engaged, snapping shut only when you step in, so the action is effortless while the retention is perfectly secure and disengagement smooth and easy.
This is the second model from top in the four-pedal range, and comes with a large, stable, carbon body, a hollow steel axle and well-sealed oversize bearings. Stones and mud get caught in the cleats easily, but polyurethane stabilisers keep you upright, although they do wear quickly.
