Smooth and controlled with a neat 15mm axle system – great value

Suntour’s Epicon has been around for a while now, but this up-to-date version is a cracking value, well controlled mid-travel trail fork.

Not only does it get post mounts for easy disc brake setup, but Suntour has its own take on the 15mm through-axle.

The QLOC uses a spring-loaded mushroom head for fast push-through engagement, with a nicely shaped cam lever for tightening and a push collar for instant removal. It’s not as tight as the best 20mm forks but for under £200 it’s impressive.

The air-sprung stroke is smoothly progressive and the compression damping is acceptably controlled too. It’s not as calmly controlled as Fox or BlackBox damping when all hell breaks loose down the crags, but then it’s a third of the price.

Adjustable rebound allows self-tuning and you even get a remote lockout for the smooth stuff, making it a total bargain.
