Several years ago, Gilbert could be found riding a 50cm frame with a 140mm stem but now opts for a 54, paired with a slightly shorter, though still long, 130mm 3T stem. However, he's sticking with the 3T Rotundo carbon bars that he's been using since his 2012 Worlds victory.
Fizik provides an all-black Volta R1 saddle, which offers modern technology with a classic curved profile, allowing for reduced pedalling friction at the point of contact.
The Dura-Ace C35 wheels favour races with expected crosswinds, but are still suited for the fast sprint finishes that Gilbert is capable of, and it’s no surprise to see the wildly popular Continental Competition Pro-Ltd tubs glued on.
Shimano is a major sponsor, and BMC has been supplied with the flagship Dura Ace Di2 groupset. Gilbert also uses an SRM power meter and PowerControl-7 head-unit to precisely measure and record his power output.
