Canyon's new 29in-wheeled Lux Trail cross-country mountain bike is designed for high-paced riding, whether that's heading up or down mountains. It's a true downcountry bike in all but name.
The Lux Trail's geometry has been tweaked, with the new bike sporting a 67-degree head tube angle and 76-degree seat tube angle across the five-size range (XS to XL).
Using a full carbon fibre construction – either the pricier CFR or more affordable CF – Canyon claims the Lux Trail CFR's frame weighs only 1,996g (medium), which makes it "one of the lightest in its category".
With a 120mm fork and 115mm of rear-wheel travel, the new Lux Trail gets a 'hanging rocker' designed to improve small-bump sensitivity and make it feel as if it has more travel.
Clever, integrated storage features across the bike include space in the down tube, tyre plugs in the bar ends and a multi-tool fitted to the underside of the top tube.
There are five models in the new Lux Trail range, starting with the Lux Trail CF 6 (£3,199 / €3,299) and topping out at the Lux Trail CFR LTD (£8,099 / €8,499).
2024 Canyon Lux Trail frame and suspension
Made from either Canyon's top-tier CFR or slightly weightier CF carbon materials, the new Lux Trail's frame features clean uninterrupted lines from rear axle to head tube.
According to Canyon, the weight difference between the two material types is minimal; a medium CFR frame tips the scales at 1,996g, while the CF version is 2,164g.
Along with updates to the frame's looks, this newest version gets plenty of onboard storage solutions.
Storage is integrated into the down tube, with the access door – that sits above rather than underneath the bottle cage mounts – featuring space for a C02 canister.
A frame bag – dubbed the Canyon Load Tool Pouch – extends from the opening to the bend in the frame's tube just in front of the bottom bracket.
A multi-tool is mounted under the top tube, while the bar ends are fitted with tubeless tyre repair plugs.
Across the whole size range is space within the front triangle for two water bottles, one on the down tube and the other on the seat tube.
Cables are routed internally via the headset, while the bike uses SRAM's Univeral Derailleur Hanger and has a threaded BSA bottom bracket.
The headset features Canyon's Impact Protection Unit, designed to prevent the bar contacting the top tube by over-rotating. The underside of the down tube has in-built rubberised protection.
Suspension
The Lux Trail's 115mm of rear-wheel travel is claimed to have good small-bump sensitivity, and become "reactive" in its mid-stroke through to bottom-out.
Canyon hopes its kinematics will make it ride "like a bike with much more rear travel".
A 'hanging rocker' that's attached to the top tube and drives the rear shock controls the suspension's kinematics.
This pivots on bushings rather than bearings, also helping to save weight.
According to Canyon's suspension graph, the initial 29mm of the bike's travel up to sag is slightly regressive, getting softer as it compresses.
From the sag point to bottom-out, it's then just over 18 per cent progressive.
Using flex stays – where the seatstays 'bend' as the suspension compresses – instead of a seat-to-chainstay pivot on a bush or bearing, Canyon claims this saves weight.
Each frame size has its own shock tune to better represent the needs of its intended rider.
A bar-mounted three-position remote lever switches both the shock and fork between open, pedal and locked modes.
2024 Canyon Lux Trail geometry
The Lux Trail's five-size range caters for riders from 158cm (XS) to 200cm (XL) tall.
Building on the outgoing Lux Trail's figures, the new bike's geometry is a step rather than a leap forwards.
That step puts it firmly in line with other downcountry-style bikes on offer.

Up-front is a 67-degree head angle, matched with a 76-degree seat tube angle; these are slacker and steeper respectively.
Reaches span from 412mm to 500mm, with the size large's figure hitting the sweet spot of 480mm.
A short 435mm chainstay is shared across the frame's sizes, while wheelbases start at 1,129mm and extend to 1,232mm; all very reasonable.
2024 Canyon Lux Trail specs, models and pricing
Prices in the five-model range start at £3,199 / €3,299 for the Lux Trail CF 6 and rise to £8,099 / €8,499 for the range-topping Lux Trail CFR LTD.
The CFR models and CF6 are not available in the US, however all other CF models are.
Both RockShox and Fox builds are available, the former featuring a SRAM drivetrain and Transmission gearing, the latter fitted with Shimano's 12-speed offerings.
Both CFR bikes get Canyon's integrated bar and stem combo, with different geometry depending on frame size. The XS bar is 740mm wide and claimed to weigh 225g, while the small to XL bikes have a 760mm-wide bar, tipping the scales at 275g.
Dropper-post travel also varies by bike size; the XS has 100mm, the S 125mm and the medium to XL bikes have 150mm of drop.
The range-topping Lux Trail CFR LTD is claimed to weigh 11.66kg (size unspecified), while the entry-level CF 6 tips the scales at a claimed 13.1kg (size unspecified).
