Lazer’s history goes back to 1919 — it’s the world’s oldest helmet company, it claims — and the brand now sells into more than 50 countries.
Shimano American bought clothing company Pearl Izumi in 2008. Between the two companies, Shimano now has head-to-toe gear for road and mountain bike riders, in addition to its componentry. Shimano also makes clothing, shoes and sunglasses.
"This is a complete win-win for Lazer and Shimano,” said Lazer managing director Sean van Waes. “It allows Lazer to concentrate on what we do best - innovation - helping us to become the biggest helmet brand in the world at a faster pace whilst giving Shimano access to the best helmets in the business."
Lazer will continue its operations at its base in Antwerp, Belgium, Shimano Europe said.
